A lot of people worry about maintaining and updating their Squarespace website after working with a professional to upgrade it (or even if they did it on their own). Will it be too tech-heavy? Will they break the website entirely?! Read on for some common (and understandable) fears people have when it comes to keeping their website going.

What if I break my website? Yes, this is a real question people have. They are concerned that one wrong click will lead to the entire downfall of their website and business as they know it. The good news? It would take much more than a few misled clicks around your webpage editing tool to completely dismantle it all. When you choose to design your site in Squarespace, you are in luck because you do not need to maintain any complex code if you want to change text, colors, layout, or pretty much anything. It would have to be a complex update that you most likely are not going to need.

Will I have to learn code to maintain this myself? This one is a continuation of the above, and the answer is still NO! Unless you want some unique custom features, it should not require any code to make simple and basic updates. And if you do want something more interesting that may require code? Even that can relatively simple to do. Squarespace makes it easy to enter code into the custom css box, just be sure to do your research about the code itself to make sure you are getting it from a reliable source. Code can always be removed if it is causing problems.

How do I update my website without ruining the design? In Squarespace, you can set up Site Styles so that all your colors, fonts, and even buttons, are set in place and ready to go. You don’t need to worry about losing them as they are already setup in your style panel (the little paintbrush icon, top right in the editor). If you decide you want to add a new section to your website, Squarespace will use the existing color from your chosen palette, as well as the fonts once you add a text block.

Will I be able to maintain and update myself, or will I need to always ask for help and hire someone? Yes, you absolutely will be able to maintain and update your Squarespace website by yourself without having to hire a pro. Once you use the platform more and more, you will quickly become comfortable updating, adding, re-arranging, you name it, all things on your website.

What is something goes wrong after I try updating it or adding something new?
